About

About Susan

Susan is dedicated to preserving the traditions of the ranch horse while complementing that training with classical principles. Susan is a proven competitor, clinician, coach and judge with over 25 years of experience and travels throughout the United States giving clinics. Susan has had the privilege to study with some of the best horsemen in the world. Chris Cox and Eitan Beth-Halachmy have been her mentors and greatest inspiration.

Susan met Chris Cox in 2006 at a local clinic. It became evident to her that he possessed a unique quality that set him apart from the majority of clinicians at that time. Susan found herself deeply moved by his ability to understand how the horse thinks. During the initial two years following their meeting, Susan embarked on a journey to Texas in order to successfully complete his Horsemanship Program. Since the year 2008, Susan has ridden with Chris in more than 20 clinics across multiple states including California, Texas, Arizona, Utah, Colorado, and Wyoming. With Chris’ guidance, Susan has perfected her feel and timing and the ability read the horse. Susan attributes her love of the ranch horse to the invaluable influence of Chris.

In 2015, Susan met Eitan Beth-Beth Halachmy, a renowned figure and Founder of Cowboy Dressage. Eitan's unique riding style has earned him numerous National World titles. Susan was inspired by the beauty and grace of his horses and eagerly sought to learn from him. Riding with Eitan Beth-Halachmy proved to be an enlightening experience, as his profound comprehension of equine movement and balance left a lasting impression. His approach to western training is rooted in classical principles, which Susan found refreshing. His ability to think outside the box is truly innovative.. Susan attributes her understanding of biomechanics and her passion for artistic expression to the teachings of Eitan.

Mounted Police Training

In 2013, Susan was contacted by the East Bay Mounted Police Department to assist after one of their officers had a serious horse-related accident. Susan's used her extensive experience to prepare the Officers and horses for exposure to various challenging situations such as large crowds, traffic, loud noises, flares, trail obstacles, helicopters, and gunfire. With Susan's guidance, the unit has achieved a perfect safety record. From 2014 to 2018, Susan served as the trainer for the San Francisco Police Mounted Unit, primarily focusing on training in Golden Gate Park and its surrounding areas. In 2018, Susan attended the 40-hour POST certified Mounted Basic Training in Norco. Additionally, she conducts sensory clinics to the public, emphasizing horsemanship and correct riding techniques.
